Nathan Murphy is a former Collingwood premiership defender who has moved into a development and opposition analysis role with the Magpies after being medically retired in 2024 due to concussion. Drafted from Sandringham Dragons and Brighton Grammar with pick 39 in the 2017 national draft, Murphy played 57 AFL games and was a key part of Collingwood’s 2023 flag, renowned for his courage, competitiveness and intercept work in defence.

Since stepping away from playing, he has re-joined Collingwood’s football department, working alongside the senior coaching group in a hybrid role that combines opposition analysis, game preparation and player development. Murphy also contributes to coaching in the school system with Brighton Grammar, adding a strong teaching and mentoring element to his work with emerging players.
