A relatively newcomer to AFL, Joel grew up playing Basketball and Soccer before starting to play football in his late teens.

An athletic tall, Joel has tremendous athleticism and showed continual improvement throughout the 2017 season where he split his time between playing for Mentone Grammar and Sandringham Dragons. At the middle stage of the season you could really see Joel's confidence grow as he began to fly for his marks and take the game on. Fortunately he took this confidence into the last few rounds of the season for Sandringham Dragons when he arguably played his best Football for the season in the TAC Cup Finals, including the Grand Final.

Joel made an impressive start to his career at the Swans in 2018. Whilst he wasn’t able to make his debut, the club was excited by his development in the NEAFL resulting in him pushing for senior selection at multiple times across the season before breaking into the team for the last game of the 2020 season. With that experience now under his belt, Joel has continued to make great strides in his development playing a number of games throughout 2021 & 2022. 2023 was a great season for Joel, kicking 20 goals from his 15 appearances for the Swans. Joel booted four majors in Round 20 against Essendon to secure a crucial two-point win. Joel will be looking to backup his 2023 season and continue to thrive as an important key forward for the young side.
