Damian Barrett is AFL Media's chief correspondent and an award-winning journalist widely acknowledged as being the best news breaker in the AFL.
Damian’s career as a sports journalist and broadcaster spans over 30 years, from senior reporting and commentary roles at News Limited newspapers around the country, mainly Melbourne’s Herald Sun, to being part of Channel Nine’s The Footy Show programs for the past 11 years.
He has also been a key member of Triple M radio’s AFL broadcasts for the past 19 years, a columnist and TV program host on AFL Media providing news and opinion-based columns for AFL.com.au. Barrett is also a regular contributor on Channel Nine’s Footy Classified, AFL Daily podcast, as well as host of SEN’s Trade Radio programming. Damian also co-hosts The Sounding Board podcast with Craig Hutchison.
Barrett’s talent and success is undeniable, further supported by the many journalistic awards he has received during his career. Barrett has twice won the Alf Brown Trophy, the most prestigious award in Australian football media, as well as a Quill award and has been a Walkley finalist on multiple occasions.
